DEN outdoors, a company based in upstate New York that sells house plans, wanted to build a web-based AR product configurator to get more leads. After our CEO, Daniel, became their client while building his own tiny house, DEN’s CEO reached out to us asking for our help with the augmented reality aspect of the project. Since we already knew and loved their brand, we were happy to help out.
DEN wanted to allow their customers to customize their house build using this new web-based configurator. They wanted the users to be able to change the color of the interior, and exterior of the house, and they wanted different point of view of the same house (Exterior, Interior, Floor Plan).
After getting visual references of the 4 different types of build, we got to work, and built 4 different low-poly 3D models ( .GLB file + PBR textures ). We used 3dsmax to create the different models, bake the lighting information, and then we used Blender for the final GLB file export.
In parallel, we also built a simplified AR-enabled web page using Glitch where we integrated the 3D models. That way, once we were done with the development on our side, the client could just easily integrate our JavaScript code, and 3D models on their own web-based configurator. At the end, we ended up using Three.js for the 3D visualization on the web page alongside Google’s Model Viewer web component for the augmented reality feature.
After the client integrated our solution into theirs, we were left with a great looking product configurator that works on mobile as well as Desktop.
